The Feast Day of St. Thomas More
June 22/23
"I am the King's good servant, but God's first." So said St. Thomas More, whose feast we celebrate on June 22nd. St. Thomas More was once Sir Thomas More, a lawyer and statesman in the court of King Henry VIII. When the king wished to dissolve his marriage to Catherine of Aragon -- who was infertile -- the pope held up the validity of the marriage. Desperate to generate an heir, King Henry declared himself the head of the Church of England and granted himself an annulment. Most leaders signed the "Oath of Supremacy," declaring the King's power over the English Church. Thomas More, then the Lord Chancellor, refused to sign. He was sentenced to death. St. Thomas More reminds us of our call to integrity and to the defense of truth in the public square. Thomas More is the patron saint of lawyers, politicians, and civil servants.

If you would like to make a Memorial Donation to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in honor of a friend or family member, please stop by the church office or welcome desk on the weekend and fill out the form and make your donation. The name of the person you are honoring will appear in the bulletin and the members of St. Vincent de Paul will pray for them for a year at their monthly meetings. Your donation will be used to provide emergency assistance to those in need on the west side of Elgin. 100% of your donation will be used to help others.
Traveling Sacred Heart of Jesus
June 9, 2024 – June 27, 2025
To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Apparitions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, St. Thomas More will begin a travel devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus. The statue will travel from home to home with the focus of prayer, either individually or with family members.

A parishioner has kindly offered to repair broken rosaries so they can be donated and shared in our Adoration Chapel and with others who may be in need of a rosary. If you have a rosary to be repaired to share, place in a zippered plastic bag and leave in the marked box on the Welcome Desk.
